Whenever I talk on the phone or drink a cup of tea, my elbow juts out into space, perpendicular to my body. People often comment on it but it feels natural to me. It’s like my body is only made of two major joints – the hinge and the pivot. I am hardly the exemplar of functionality.

Saying that, I am aware of the space that my body occupies in this position, and I adjust accordingly when that space is removed, but when free of constraints, my elbow snaps back up, locked in a stiff waltz.

Though in these times of social distancing, it has become less of a problem than it once was.
